A. Qualifications
- Active membership in NAHQ and the respective affiliated state association, if one exists.
- Ability to provide leadership regarding strategic planning, mentorship, organizational performance and establishment of opportunities for NAHQ as an organization and for its members.
- Ability to commit significant amount of time necessary to effectively manage the association.
- Previous experience as a member of the NAHQ Board of Directors (preferred) or equivalent work experience related to governance and healthcare at the national level.
- CPHQ certification; Fellowship preferred.
B. General Responsibilities and Duties
- The president-elect shall perform all duties assigned by the president and must become familiar with and prepare for the duties of the office of president.
- Become familiar with the aims, ideals, and mechanisms for conducting NAHQ business.
- Participate in developing the annual budget.
C. Observe and prepare for duties of office of President
- Conduct teleconference calls for affiliated state leaders.
- Receive communication items from team leaders, facilitators, quality volunteers, and headquarters.
- Maintain regular communication with current president and past president.
- Be aware of budget concerns.
- Be familiar with mechanisms for conducting business.
- Know parliamentary procedure, NAHQ Bylaws, policy and procedures, board functions, and how to conduct meetings.
- Attend the American Society of Association Executives CEO/CSO Leadership Symposium prior to taking the office of president.
D. In the spring, recommend appointment of teams to the NAHQ Board, with input from team leaders, JHQ Editor-in-Chief, and Healthcare Quality Certification Board.
- Work with staff to review and update the volunteer "show of interest" form to be available on the website.
- Prior to annual conference, appoint the team leaders, team members, and quality volunteers, based on the responses to the show of interest forms and self-evaluation forms completed, and submit to the board of directors for approval.
- Distribute the strategic plan document and assist in providing expected objectives and outcomes to each team.
E. Serves as liaison to affiliated states.
- Communicate with state presidents/contacts at least quarterly.
- Ensure each new state president/president-elect is listed in state presidents and Leadership Council Listservs.
- Make contact with new state presidents/presidents-elect.
- Work with staff to ensure continued communication with states when states change leaders.
- Develop contacts with nonaffiliated states and communicate annually with them.
- Ensure 100% reporting with annual affiliation compliance reporting process.
- Communicate with NAHQ Board on affiliation compliance process and make recommendations as necessary.
- Work with staff to ensure that NAHQ website is current with contact information.
- Encourage states to post their information to NAHQ webpage.
- Survey states annually to determine their needs and develop proposals for NAHQ Board as appropriate.
- Actively promote state conference calls.
- Review program annually and report to NAHQ Board.
F. Act as coordinator for strategic planning.
- Work with staff and board to determine the strategic planning process for the upcoming year.
- Communicate the strategic planning process to Leadership Council and obtain input from Leadership Council on strategic issues
Anticipated Time Commitment
- 10 hours per month
Estimated Number of Meetings/Conference Calls
- Participation at annual educational conference
- Three onsite board meetings (includes strategic planning)
- Approximately eight conference calls with affiliated state leaders, and three board conference calls (1-3 hours each)
- Other follow-up calls as necessary

- No personal money is required
- Time commitment from employer
