The Call to Action, developed in collaboration with several national healthcare organizations, serves to protect quality and safety of patient care, protects the integrity of the process for reporting and evaluating concerns, raises awareness of the issue among leaders and policymakers and fulfills NAHQ’s leadership role among its members and constituents by raising the issue and providing professional guidance.

Protect the Integrity and Quality of Healthcare, the featured editorial written by NAHQ volunteer Cindy Barnard, MBA MSJS CPHQ, for the May/June 2013 issue of the Journal for Healthcare Quality, outlines and identifies specific recommendations for all organizations to utilize in regards to healthcare reporting, relating to the NAHQ Call to Action. “With all the investment of the past decade in safety improvement, and even with excellent research and evidence on the importance of a culture of safety, this is the first time that a group of this scope and credibility has named the problem of integrity candidly. NAHQ defined a pragmatic path to health what is broken in our systems for the protection of quality,” states Cindy Barnard, Director of Quality Strategies at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
