The Florida Association for Healthcare Quality (FAHQ) will hold its 2010 Annual Conference, “Starlight in the Sunshine: Best Practices Across the Healthcare Spectrum,” on April 22–23 at the Sonesta Hotel Downtown Orlando in Orlando, FL. Keynote speakers include NAHQ President Linda Scribner, who will discuss “Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE): So What’s a Coordinator to Do?” and Kate O’Rourke, network manager, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), who will discuss IHI’s Improvement Map. |
The conference presents evidence-based best practices in areas such as survey readiness, patient safety, infection control, prevention, patient satisfaction, patient throughput, and rapid response teams. The conference is preceded by 2 days of preconference programs. A CPHQ preparation class will be held on April 20–21, including an interactive workshop on the use of “positive deviance.” For more information, visit www.fahq.org.

| As of January 1, Paula Dustin, RN, a quality systems specialist from Maine General Health in Augusta, ME, is the new president of the Maine Association for Healthcare Quality (MaineAHQ). One of Paula’s goals is to continue the long-time MAHQ tradition of providing meaningful educational programs that will help CPHQs attain the required CEUs for renewals. In addition, the MAHQ membership has selected other new officers for 2010: Jennifer Charettte as president-elect, Joanne Fuller as treasurer, and Bill Zuber as secretary. Meanwhile, the March Education session on electronic medical records and risk will be held on March 19 (9 am–3 pm) at the Maine Hospital Association. Sign-up confirmation will start next month. The Maryland Association for Healthcare Quality (MAHQ) will be sponsoring a 1.5-day CPHQ review course on February 18-19 at the Maryland Hospital Association. | Debra V. Aschenbrenner, RN, president of the Nevada Association for Healthcare Quality (NvAHQ), reports that NvAHQ is currently looking for outside sponsorship for its presentations and events. Two major events are planned this year: a mock trial and a presentation on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the electronic health record for healthcare professionals across the continuum of care.
