Preparing Nurses for Quality Management
Lenard L. Parisi, MA RN CPHQ FNAHQ, reports in Nursing Spectrum on how the nursing shortage has not only resulted in a dramatic shortage of registered nurses at the front line of care but also left healthcare organizations struggling to find professionals to perform quality management (QM) activities. He discusses how the Metropolitan Quality Management Program Leadership team (on which he serves) developed an innovative initiative to educate and prepare nurses for QM roles.

Parisi is vice president, quality management, at Metropolitan Jewish Health System, Brooklyn, NY; NAHQ director of member services; and vice-chair of the Joint Commission Homecare Professional and Technical Advisory Committee.
