Why Go to Conference?
The following are just some of the benefits of attending conference:
- You do something for you!
- You earn continuing education credits.
- You visit an exciting host city.
- You’ll get a little time away from work, children, partner. (Think how much they’ll appreciate you when you get back!)
- You learn and are stimulated by your peers.
Those are great reasons, but there are even more! There are numerous
opportunities to network, learn new things, enhance your
professionalism, share your experiences with others, and reconnect with
old friends.
Networking
Happily, the biggest benefit gained from attending a conference doesn’t
take advance preparation. This is the energy and inspiration received
by connecting with kindred spirits—your peers. Perhaps the most
valuable resource we take with us, as we exit the final session, is a
renewal of the passion that brought us all together in the first place.
Education
You will learn much from attending a
conference. There will be wonderful speakers with much to share. You
will learn a great deal as you network with colleagues. Conference
provides an opportunity to learn from the pros, share ideas with your
peers, and bring home the latest techniques.
Professionalism
As the healthcare arena becomes
more competitive, it is important for you to stand out from other
healthcare professionals. Show that your education is current by
attending high-caliber sessions, returning home and reading the
literature, then providing expert practice, and documenting and even
publishing your positive outcomes.
Enjoy your conference!
Recognition and thanks go to the South Central Region of the Wound Ostomy
and Continence Nurses Society for developing the original Guide to
Conference and for allowing us to adapt it for our national conference.
