Sandra K. Murray, MA RD, Corporate
Transformation Concepts, Eugene, OR

This full-day workshop is geared toward those seeking to advance their skills in data collection, data analysis, and the use of analytical statistics in decision-making and improvement. This will be accomplished through participants’ review and hands-on use of such tools as run charts, Pareto charts, frequency plots, and scatter plots. This actionoriented workshop is appropriate for improvement professionals, other healthcare professionals at middle- and upper-management levels, healthcare providers involved in quality improvement, professionals involved in utilization review, case management, data collection and analysis, and functional or departmental managers.

Note: Participants should bring a calculator to this workshop.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 8 AM - NOON
Changing Patterns of Communication in Healthcare (002)
Lt. Col. Beth Y. Kohsin, NC MS RN CPHQ, U.S. Air Force, Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, DC

Communication failures are the leading cause of sentinel events reported to the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Reliance on healthcare workers to “do a better job communicating” is not the answer. This interactive preconference workshop will discuss the major obstacles to safe and effective communication and teamwork in healthcare—those human factors, processes, and system designs that set people up to fail. Solutions will then be offered to help counter these obstacles and create a safer healthcare environment.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 1–5 PM
The Role of Complexity and Systems Thinking in Health Systems Redesign (003)

This preconference workshop has been cancelled.  We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause you.
